Static is a common problem with carpets in dry areas. The human body, as it moves across a carpet, picks up charge from the friction between the surface of the carpet and the soles of the feet; this charge may result in an electric shock when the body comes in contact with a conductive body like a metallic doorknob.

Today, most mill-made carpets come pre-treated with anti-static treatment. This can also be provided using many off-the-shelf products, but beware! We need to take humidity readings to apply an appropriate product to the furnishings. If someone just came along and sprayed the furnishings without taking readings they wouldn't know what they were doing.
